Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade
Department of Pharmacy was first founded at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Belgrade on 24 October 1939. The Faculty of Pharmacy became an independent higher education institution on 19 October 1945. For a number of years the courses were taught in the facilities of the Faculty of Medicine, and in September 1991 the Faculty of Pharmacy moved to its own building located at Vojvode Stepe 450.
From its foundation until the end of 2007, there were 9,284 students who graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and 1,788 completed their specialisation courses (1,176 attendees completed healthcare specialisation courses); moreover, 286 master’s thesis and 239 doctoral dissertations were successfully presented.
In addition to being a higher education institution, the Faculty of Pharmacy is also involved in various educational, scientific, healthcare, professional, publishing, librarian and museum activities. The museum of the history of pharmacy is registered as an official museum of the City of Belgrade.
Study program Pharmacy
In order to improve the knowledge and skills of pharmacists, the Faculty organises and supports research projects and collaborates with the scientific public both in the country and abroad, and is also involved in publishing activities.
Integrated studies – 5 years
Integrated academic studies last for five (5) years, or ten (10) semesters, including the preparation of the diploma paper, and provide 300 ECTS credits.
Every subject from the study plan provides a number of ECTS credits, and the scope of studies is expressed by the sum total of ECTS credits. The sum of 60 ECTS credits is equivalent to the total engagement of an average student during one 40-hour working week throughout one academic year, where the distribution of ECTS credits per semesters need not be symmetrical. All the subjects at the Faculty of Pharmacy have been classified into two groups: required and elective subjects. Program of integrated academic studies refers to the study programs below.
Students who have successfully completed study program Pharmacy are qualified for the following:
- Independent work in pharmacies on the tasks of providing, preparing and dispensing medicines, medical devices and dietetic products, supplying information on their proper and safe use;
- Being a part of the professional healthcare team where, with physicians and other healthcare workers, they ensure the implementation of rational pharmacotherapy, as well as other activities related to prevention and treatment of diseases and promoting a healthy lifestyle;
- Performing tasks related to developing, manufacturing, quality assurance and registering medicines, medical devices, dietetic and cosmetic products;
- Performing tasks related to ensuring availability, distribution and marketing of medicines, medical devices, dietetic and cosmetic products;
- Participation in the activities of regulatory bodies concerned with issuing and implementation of laws and bylaws, and in pharmaceutical practices surveys and research with the aim of ensuring the functioning and constant improvement of healthcare system and public health;
- Work on developing and implementing appropriate analytical methods and techniques in laboratories and centres for science and research, development, control, in different fields of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences;
- Taking part in training and education and in continuing further scientific development and lifelong learning.
Phd studies – 3 years
Doctoral academic studies – study program Pharmacy sciences in English lasts 3 years (6 semesters), granting 180 ECTS points upon completion. Candidates can apply for research areas listed below. The program consists of 5 compulsory and 4 eligible subjects in the first two years. Research is planned throughout the study period.
