WHO WE ARE?

The establishment of the Geographical Institute at the Great School back in 1893 can be considered the beginning of the development of scientific geography in Serbia and other Serbian countries. Thanks, first of all, to Jovan Cvijić and his students, the Serbian school of geography strongly asserted itself and took a prominent place, and in some segments even a leader, in the world. From its establishment until today, the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade and the Belgrade School of Geography have a leading place in the development of scientific geography and the application of scientific results in various areas of social practice, such as: spatial planning, urban planning, rural planning, protection and improvement of the environment and others .

The main activity of the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade is higher education and scientific work, which form part of the national, international, and especially European educational and scientific space. Educational and scientific work at the Faculty of Geography is organized and carried out in the manner determined by the Statute of the Faculty in accordance with the Laws regulating higher education and scientific research activities in the Republic of Serbia.

What do we offer

The Faculty of Geography in Belgrade conducts academic and basic vocational studies in three degrees: First-degree studies are basic academic studies that last four (4) years (240 ESPB points). Second degree studies are graduate academic studies (master’s studies), which last one (1) year (60 ESPB points). The first two study degrees (basic and graduate academic) at the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade have a total of 300 ESPB points (last 5 years). Third degree studies are doctoral academic studies, which last three (3) years and have 180 ESPB points. They can be enrolled with a previously achieved study volume of at least 300 ESPB points in basic academic and graduate academic studies.

The Faculty of Geography in Belgrade performs scientific activity as an equal area of its overall activity. Scientific work is carried out through basic, applied and developmental research, which is carried out with the aim of developing science and the profession, raising the quality of teaching, scientific and professional training, developing scientific and teaching youth, introducing students to scientific work and creating material conditions for work and development faculty.

The Faculty of Geography in Belgrade organizes and conducts studies during the school year, which begins on October 1 and lasts for 12 calendar months. At the Faculty of Geography, the school year is divided into two semesters, each of which lasts 15 weeks (fall and spring semester). Teaching of all subjects is organized and carried out during one semester. All other details related to the study regime are determined by the Statute of the Faculty.
The Faculty of Geography in Belgrade organizes and conducts studies in the Serbian language. It also organizes and conducts studies, i.e. individual parts of studies, i.e. enables the preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation in the language of the national minority and in a foreign language in accordance with the Statute.

The Faculty of Geography in Belgrade organizes and conducts studies through direct contact with students (direct teaching) and does not organize distance studies and study programs.
