Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Novi Sad

The Faculty of Civil Engineering is a higher education institution of the University of Novi Sad. It was founded on April 22, 1974, and is located in Subotica.

On January 11, 1972, a decision was made to appoint an initiative committee for the establishment of the Faculty. The preparations lasted more than two years and finally, on April 22, 1974, the Faculty of Civil Engineering was established. In that first year, there were two majors at the Faculty: constructive and hydrotechnical, in which 150 students enrolled.

In the beginning, the premises of the Workers’ University, the Higher Technical School and the laboratories of the construction institute were used for teaching. The search for a potential location took several years, as none of the proposals were entirely suitable. Finally, on January 11, 1979, the foundation stone for the new building of the Faculty of Civil Engineering was laid.

What do we offer

The building was designed by architect Nikola Ilinčić, and the first students participated in its creation, in cooperation with professors. The project of the Faculty building received numerous awards, with modern classrooms, an amphitheater, laboratories, a computer cabinet and a library with over 7,000 professional titles. The Faculty building was completed in 1981, and officially opened on June 11, 1982.

For 50 years of its existence as part of the University of Novi Sad, the Faculty of Civil Engineering has grown into a modern educational and scientific institution, with classes in Serbian and partly in Hungarian. Study programs are systematically expanded, in line with trends in science and the market. Thus, two construction majors and a geodesy study program were added. The faculty has successful cooperation with other faculties, institutes and construction operations, but also with local self-government and the economy.
